Computerized Brother Machine Maintenance Time-Lapse
Переглядів 9006 років тому
It takes over an hour to do six machines but you can see what’s involved in just three minutes, fascinating huh! We have 30 machines to do so this is an all day project for us. We keep it fun and that huge pile of machine lint you can see at the end makes it very rewarding! One machine had 3 bobbins and a bobbin cover hidden inside! Awesome!

Sears Kenmore 1410 Sewing Machine
Переглядів 66 тис.13 років тому
The Kenmore 1410 is a unique machine in that it was designed for doing buttonholes. Unlike most machines that use universal attachments this machine has a special bobbin cover that includes a gear driven from under the machine to activate the attachment. This allows more accurate buttonholes no matter what the thickness of the fabric is you're using.

My 285 k sews beautifully. I’ve worked on it at least a week but can’t get the stitch length adjuster to stay. It jumps up and down. I have to hold it in place. Any ideas on how to fix this problem

I have the Pfaff 1475 CD and I bought it brand new so many years ago. It does have a memory if you have two AA batteries installed in the bottom of the machine. I used it just about every day sewing clothing for me, my two children, and my two granddaughters through the years. I love this machine. On the front of the machine it says "Made in West Germany" There are three features in this machine that made me buy it. It was the first sewing machine that could sew a 9 mm wide stitch, built in dual feed (walking foot), and a basting stitch that would sew a stitch and advance a few places then stitch again (this was useful when trying garments on without getting stuck with pins). It's in the shop getting serviced by a man who was trained by Pfaff through the years.

This is indeed the best technique to get sharp collar points. I've tried it lately on a silk blouse, and it worked perfectly. I have learned this technique many years ago, watching tailoring and sewing techniques on UA-cam. I've seen it with sewing one short side pulling a string around the needle point and then sewing the long side, pulling another string around the corner and sewing the short side. There is a short "simple collar turning technique" demonstrating it. Sometimes, grading the seam allowance instead of cutting both sides equally makes a smoother transition and looks less bulky .

So, 14 years later, you're still helping people with this video. I was wondering if I could attach an electronic foot pedal to my vintage Kenmore and Domestic Rotary machines. Now that I'm sure it can be done, I'm diving in. I've stuck around, to learn more about how these things work, and you've done an excellent job of explaining things. Thank you!

Have you tired to put the new electronic controls in the old pedals at all to try to maintain the vintage look? Maybe there is a way to do it by using the parts from both and adapting them. If you have done it will you please let me know. Thank you

The rack and pinion hook and the ramp and spring up and down for the feed dog... yeah, it was a super cheap machine. On the other hand, there are a lot of them still around which have been in constant use for well over half-a-century. They did have reverse, their stitch was quite evenly balanced, the feed dogs actually worked, despite that weird design. Loud and that awful plastic presser foot release lever. Kinda cute but, yeah - after the 401A&G and the earliest 501s....Singer was done.

There was a market for cheeper lighter machines and this their first attempt. Need to remove the rust from gears for them to work properly. Dremel with a wire wheel works. They are inherently loud and the case supports are often damaged from the machine weight and movement. The stitch length does not have a big range. But this little machine as power and sews leather.

Thank you for this video. It is very informative. What kind of wax did you use to shine the machine. I just had my mom’s Singer 99 repaired and I’d like to shine it up a bit. I used Singer sewing machine oil and it helped a lot, but there are still a few areas that still need more shine. 😊

My grandmother gave me her machine, and told me that she always had a cushion at the back to rest the machine when opening it to change the bobin! I think that's a great tip because it's super heavy to hold

This was my first Pfaff, bought in 1992 because it was so quiet! I was always a night-sewer and that was important! In 1995, my son had a week left of his job as an airline baggage handler so I decided to save $10 by repairing his broken knee pads. I managed to BREAK OFF the walking foot. That was a first for that dealer - and no one they contacted had heard of it either. Sigh. My husband decided to upgrade me and I got a 7550. I had heard on the mail-list that a hoop was coming out but the dealer was either ignorant or in denial and said that wasn't true. I could have gotten the 7570 for the same price a couple of months later. Sigh. I finally got a hooped machine, only to discover that this was the machine that was being designed by Pfaff engineers when the company was sold. The Viking engineers were tasked to finish it since they fired the Pfaff people. They did a horrible job. It spent more time being 'fixed' than I sewed. That was finally fixed, I stitched out a design and it blew something expensive. My husband said NO MORE. I still loved Pfaff. We went home with a Creative Vision 5. It had to be exchanged. It was just a few months before the new thread feeding system came out. This one seems to work.

I own a Vigorelli Robot machine that is similar to yours, with some exceptions... its cam selector is a horizontal steel lever (with a very small round knob... it has detents numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and "N' rather than the round, brown knob that yours has. My machine also has a large, chrome "Vigorelli" name in script just above the bed where yours has a the colorful "Vigorelli" emblem. I addition to that, the feed control knob on my machine is chrome, rather than the brown one that your machine has. The plastic cams and the cam cover on my machine is made of "Bakelite", which is a hard man-made material, which is also very brittle. The can cover on my machine is okay, but its thumbscrew is cracked in two, yet remains in place and is useable as it is. One of my cams has a chipped tooth on it, yet it is also still useable. These are Great machines!

Just plain polyester elastic is not good for swimwear. You need swimwear elastic so it can withstand the chlorine and saltwater. I'm sure you just had a ton of 1/4" elastic laying around from mask making, but that isn't the kind to use.

Cool- I recently bought an original version of this machine from 1953, and there are a few differences, including the front badge. Mine is identical to what you have on the back, and one of the knobs on yours is a sliding lever. Now that know the empty holes up top are for oil, that helps. One knob on mine is frozen in place due to years of it sitting. Do you know of a way to loosen the knob? It’s the one with the arrow attached to it. The others are tight, but I think will loosen up with use. The first time using it, we had the same issue with the thread being pulled under, but after going through the manual, noticed a sliding washer on the feeder “knob” that the thread goes in between. It has a little pressure that keeps the thread in line and doesn’t allow it to fly out. I bought this machine because it looks cool - I’ve never sewed anything! Oh/ I do have the light, the manual, and a large assortment of different feet and accessories.
